Hawaiʻi is home to several different types of sea turtles, but the one most frequently seen is the honu, Chelonia mydas. Also knowns as the green sea turtle, it is found in tropical and sub-tropical waters around the world, and in the Indian Ocean.
They are beloved in Hawaiʻi. Many moʻolelo and kāʻau (histories and legends) are told about them.
